Macerata

Provincial capital, It embodies all the characteristics of medieval town centres. Located on a hill, the town was founded in 1138 and since then its historical centre developed to its seventeenth century appearance that still characterize it. Completely enclosed by fifteenth and sixteenth-century walls, Macerata looks harmonious and uniform in its typical brick architecture. Currently Macerata is "City of Culture" thanks to its university, founded from a Studium legum of 1290. Macerata cultural events occur throughout the year with theater and music festivals, in particular the opera season of the Sferisterio that from mid-July to mid-August brings to the city various initiatives that attract enthusiasts and Italian and foreign tourists. Another event held in June in the Sferisterio arena is Musicultura, where young emerging singers are presented to the public.

Recanati

Famous for being the birthplace of the poet Giacomo Leopardi. The little square mentioned in the lyric "Sabato del Vilalggio" is overlooking Leopardi House, where the poet was born in 1798 and where his descendants still live. Very recommended to visit the Library where the poet completed his studies. Along the road leading to the main square the house of "Silvia", the poet's true love, and the one of Adelaide Antici, his mother, the '500 church of San Vito, with its Vanvitelli's facade, the Church of Sant'Agostino, dated back to the end of '200, from whose cloister you can admire the Tower of "Passero Solitario"; 1840 Theatre Persiani hosts the museum of Beniaminio Gigli, famous tenor born in Recanati, with objects, personal documents and costumes. In Giacomo Leopardi square htere is the Tower of Borgove, the Town Hall . The Museum of Colloredo Mels Palace where you can admire works of the painter Lorenzo Lotto, like the Annunciation, the Polyptych of San Domenico, the Transfiguration and St. James the Greater.

Loreto

SInce the end of the 1200 a large number of pilgrims have come to Loreto for its Basilica with the Holy House and his religious history and the Holy House of the Virgin Mary remains one of the most popular religious destinations in the world. In 1469 Pope Paul II wanted the construction of a Basilica-Fortress, which was built up by the most important architects and artists of the period. The Basilica is a treasure of works of art, among the others the most valuable, the marble facade of the Holy House, designed by Bramante, depicting scenes from the earthly life of the Virgin Mary and built by leading sculptors of the '500. Inside the Holy House is the statue of the Black Madonna and Child dressed with his dalmatic. Outside, in the back overlooking the Adriatic Sea, the Basilica looks like a fortress. In the Apostolic Palace, partially built by Vanvitelli, there is a gallery with works of Lorenzo Lotto.

Montelupone

Located on a 272 metres hill, this place has been included among the National Most Beautiful Villages of Italy and it is also Flag of Touring Club Orange. One of the centres in the region Marche that has best preserved evidences of its rich history, with the castle walls, the four entrance gates and watchtowers. 4 km away from the centre San Firmano Abbey, founded in 986.

Abbadia di Fiastra

Chiaravalle di Fiastra Abbey and the land that surrounds it represent aperfect synthesis of faith, architecture and nature. It was founded in 1142 by a group of Cistercian monks who came from the Chiaravalle Abbey of Milan. The church, great example of Cistercian Romanesque art, is majestic but essential and it is partly made from material coming from the ruins of the nearby Roman town of Urbs Salvia. Today there is still a stable community of Cistercian monks. All around the Natural Reserve of Fiastra Abbey, a protected area of the Region Marche, created in 1984 in order to protect the territory surrounding the Abbey and its natural beauty.
